The first Iquitos International Book Fair opens this weekend

The International Fair of Book de Iquitos opens this May 15 and will have stands, artistic nights and cultural rooms. Representatives of literature, cinema, painting, theater, dance, crafts and other cultural expressions, both national and international, will be present.

The opening ceremony this Sunday will be attended by the executive director of the Binational Special Project (PEB), Hildebrando Ciro Castro Pozo Chávez, as well as the regional governor of Loreto, Elisban Ochoa.

The International Book Fair will be held from May 15 to 22 in the Plaza de Armas of Iquitos. Attendees will be able to enjoy a varied program distributed in four environments. The Iquitos Room will have a sample of the general history of our city; the Javier Heraud Room will tell the story, anecdotes and works of Javier Heraud; the Documentary Room where samples of Loreto’s cinema and audiovisual production will be exhibited and, finally, the Gabel Sotil Room.

“We invite all families to participate in FILI 2022, suitable for all ages. In addition, it is important to highlight that its realization contributes to the dissemination and promotion of our culture, reactivating the economy of the city and the region. And also, it is an extraordinary opportunity to show the wide cultural range of Loreto, especially our customs, myths and traditions, embodied in works by prominent exponents of Amazonian literature.”, refers Armando Almeida Nacimento, president of the organizing committee of the Iquitos International Book Fair.

Visitors can also participate in activities such as storytelling, conferences, talks, workshops, documentary screenings, recreated reading shows, book presentations, and theater, among others.

During the week there will also be cultural nights that will take place from 8 to 10 pm and you will be able to enjoy dances, Loreto and Latin American folk music, special shows of theater and live rock.

It should be noted that the first International Book Fair of Iquitos is organized by the Regional Government of Loreto, the Provincial Municipality of Maynas, the Cultural Association “Javier Heraud” and the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Loreto.
