Mann, who wrote the original script for “Heat” in 1979, was unable to attend this almost hour-long talk dedicated to the film, but sent a video in which he explained that he was confined in Italy, after testing positive for COVID-19 .

One of the most iconic scenes in the almost 3-hour film is when the criminal and the lawman meet face to face for coffee and say goodbye, promising each other that if they meet again they will kill each other.

Both De Niro, who is 78 years old, and Pacino pointed out that they did not rehearse that scene – which was recorded with three cameras: two above the actors’ shoulders and one in profile – to make it “purer”.

Also, Pacino likened acting with De Niro to “playing tennis,” as the actor is always on the lookout to respond and, with his great performance, forces no “ball to hit the net.”
