“Black Adam” Continues To Lead The Box Office For The Second Week In A Row

The movie “Black Adam”from Warner Bros studios, remained atop the North American box office for the second weekend in a row, grossing an estimated $27.7 million, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported on Sunday.

A plot that explores the origin story behind “Shazam!” (2019), the DC Comics superhero, “Black Adam” stars Dwayne Johnson, “The Rock”, who embodies a former slave who is given special powers.

The second place of the preferences of the public that went to theaters over the weekend was for Universal’s “Journey to Paradise”, a romantic comedy starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. The film grossed 10 million.

Horror movies got a good response at the box office in this pre-Halloween era. “Four of the top 10 movies this weekend are horror movies”said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

“The Devil’s Light,” a Lionsgate film, came in at number three, grossing $7 million.

Two other horror films, “Smile” (from Paramount) and “Halloween Ends” from Universal finished fourth and fifth, taking in $5 million and $3.8 million, respectively.

Overall, it wasn’t a great weekend for Hollywood, with movies earning an estimated $66 million, down from $100 million the previous weekend.
