Dr. Dre inducted his protege Eminem into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame can now count on the presence of a rap legend: Eminem. The artist was integrated there during the last weekend. And it was Dr. Dre, the star’s mentor, who inducted him into the temple of music. During his speech, the artist told how he discovered Marshall Mathers, before he became the rapper known as Eminem.

“Over 20 years ago (music producer) Jimmy Iovine played me a demo tape of a guy who called himself Eminem. The first thing I said when I heard him was, “What did he just say?” But I loved it so much, I couldn’t stop listening to it. A few days later, Jimmy called me and said, “Hey Dre, you know he’s white, huh?” It completely screwed me up… It hadn’t even crossed my mind,” he recalled.

And to add: “But I understood that his talents were undeniable. We were what each other needed, and I was willing to bet my whole career on that.”

An honor

Arrived on stage, Eminem thanked the Hall of Fame before admitting that he did not think he would one day have his place.

“One, I’m a rapper. Two, I almost died of an overdose. And three, I had to fight throughout my career. I dropped out of school in high school and my whole education was done with hip-hop,” he said, citing all the trailblazers that helped him get there, such as The Notorious BIG , Tupac, Ice Cube and LL Cool J.

” It’s crazy. I realize what an honor it is for me to be here tonight and what a privilege it is to make the music I love and the music that basically saved my life. They are my rock stars. These are just a few of the names that I hope will be considered for induction in the future, because without them many of us would not be here. “.

The ceremony will air on HBO on November 19.
