“F**king Perfect”: Malnati reflects on excessive self-criticism in his fourth single

The difference is clear and deliberate. The first two singles from musician Peruvian Malnati -“Pánico” and “El obrero”- have the ‘tumpa tumpa’ characteristic of the reign of the urban genre. The third one distances itself: “Stick Around”, in addition to being in English, has more evident guitars, although it does not neglect the contributions of the computer. With the fourth and most recent release, “F**king Perfect”, the transition seems complete: languages are mixed and the interest in acoustics is palpable.

Malnati confirms it: “Getting to ‘F**king Perfect’ is part of the exploration, my search for a more organic way of composition. In any case, one with less artifice”.

The first songs were of a more urban nature, with a lot of autotune on vocals and various electronic instruments. Here I decided to go the other way. The voice is not manipulated, the guitars are acoustic and even the percussion was recorded with knocks on the door. all sounds are real”.

But that transit could also play against you. Can so much variation fit into an album? The truth is that I feel comfortable with the idea of publishing singles. I think that each of the songs can have a life of its own. -explains the artist-. But the possibility of putting them together and making an eclectic record doesn’t bother me.”.

-Letter and image-

“F**king Perfect”, which is already available on all platforms, also has a video clip. Director Juan Francisco Jara worked before with Malnati in “Pánico” and, according to the musician himself, he hit the nail on the head with this single.

Happens that Malnati he did not conceive the song as a story but as a reflection on a concept. “It is based on something I feel both during the creative process and in the way I face life. I talk about self-criticism, about how we demand ourselves and we are harder with ourselves than with the rest, and I understand that it also happens to other people”.

Jara took those ideas and landed them. Finally, what is seen in the video is two women. “At first it is not clear what their relationship is, but then we understand that they are a couple. The fact is that one is resentful, and the other, full of guilt for not having given enough.”.

The result was to his liking. He concludes: “In fact, I loved it. I found non-literal parallels with my life. There were situations with which I identified and I thought it was nice how certain elements of the lyrics were interpreted.”.
