Ángela Álvarez, the 95-year-old grandmother nominated for a Latin Grammy: “I feel very proud”

Ángela Álvarez is a 95-year-old Cuban singer who managed to be nominated at the Latin Grammy 2022 in the Best New Artist category. In her step on the red carpet, the artist declared for the TNT chain and moved more than one of her with her words.

“I feel very happy, very happy and very proud because the fact that I have been nominated for a Grammy is because my music was liked”said the singer-songwriter before entering the Latin Grammy ceremony, which is held today, November 17, in Las Vegas.

“It has been a triumph for me because I never thought this. When I compose and play the guitar, I really enjoy it, but I never thought that this moment was going to happen and it has. I thank God every day.”he added.

Ángela managed to record the songs for her album, thanks to her grandson Carlos José Álvarez. In 2016, she arranged to take her grandmother to Los Angeles, where she made history in a professional studio.

The album “Angela Álvarez” escalated and became a documentary that the Cuban-American actor and friend of Carlos José, Andy García, promoted when he heard the story of the nonagenarian. The movie “Miss Angela” chronicles the life of Álvarez, her love of music and her ambition to become a singer after the age of 90.
