“The Heir”: The freestyle dynasty faces off in search of a successor | INTERVIEW

A duel of words is about to start. The freestyle movement that emerged in the street squares and has caused a rage among millions of young people, today moves to streaming thanks to Star+who will search for the next leader of the rap battles in the new survival show “The Heir: The Freestyle Dynasty”.

The new format marks a revolution within the competitions since it is the first time that a reality show with these characteristics is carried out with the support of a great production such as Disney. “I think freestyle is at the most powerful moment in its entire history. Never before has so much money, brands or public been involved; and the fact that a program like this exists is a consequence of that”, commented the host of the show, Facundo Gómez at a press conference with El Comercio.

The participants of the program come together with the promise to give life and continue with the legacy of the urban movement, for this reason, they will receive the mentoring of the legends of improvised rap in Latin America, such as our compatriot Jaze (Juan Iwasaki), the Mexican Aczino (Mauricio Hernández), the Spanish Skone (José Manzano), the Argentine Dtoke (Gastón Serrano) and the Chilean Kaiser (Alex Pino).

Thanks to my experience, I know that I can provide technical quality, but the most important thing is emotional support. Mental health is very important in the competitive issue because it is too much to be in front of cameras and expose yourself to such a large platform worldwide.. Even so, this is a nice project in which we were always supporting each otherKaiser commented.

The five mentors chose four rappers between men and women to form their “clans”, which will represent the country to which they belong, facing off in various battles until one of them manages to be chosen as “the heir” and obtains $50,000. prize dollars. “These duels are not about offending the other, but about talking about yourself, your dreams or weaknesses. There were occasions when they had to exalt the rival. The rules are constantly changing to vary the theme and we have special guests so that the energy is renewedGomez said.

The exposure of freestyle to a more heterogeneous audience will also help these new faces achieve more visibility beyond fans of cockfighting. Kaiser has high hopes that the contestants can earn the respect of the public through their art: “This show will be a great gateway to freestyle. More people will get to know hip hop culture which is generally about brotherhood, respect and values”.

In addition, he also believes that it can help to make the general public’s perspective on competitions more positive and combat current prejudices. “The young people who are doing this are not gang members, but are developing a profession with which they can give a plate of food to their family. This is a super healthy discipline, and there is nothing more beautiful than earning the respect of someone with the gift of words”, he expressed.

Facundo complements the idea by assuring that this will be the great challenge of the show, since as a production, they will try to make people who do not know the freestyle categories, “end up understanding what it is about and also end up passionate. The truth is that the rules are very few, because the basis is that it rhymes and that it is in time. Afterwards, the ingenuity of each one remains to make their metaphors, comparisons, and the order of their words. Anyone who has read a book or listened to music will understand this perfectly.”, he assured. With hip hop as a backdrop, four episodes will be released every Friday until the 20 episodes that make up the reality show are reached.
