“Super Mario Bros. The Movie” becomes the best opening of an animated film after surpassing “Frozen 2”

“Super Mario Bros. The Movie” it hasn’t needed to complete its opening weekend to break a world record. And it is that the new film from the Illumination studio has managed to surpass “Frozen 2” in the global box office figures during its first days of release.

The film starring the voices of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy and Jack Black has grossed more than $368 million worldwidebecoming the best launch of an animated production in the history of the film industry.

With this exorbitant figure, “Super Mario Bros. The Movie” has surpassed “Frozen 2”, released in 2019, which earned more than 358 million dollars at that time. The list of first places is completed by films like “Warcraft” and “Sonic 2: The Movie” with 210 and 72.1 million dollars respectively.

It should be noted that, during its opening week, “Super Mario Bros. The Movie” has also been at the top of the box office, surpassing films such as “John Wick 4”, “Dungeons and Dragons”, “Air”, “Creed ”, “Shazam! The Fury of the Gods”, among others.

“Super Mario Bros. The Movie” is the third film adaptation of Nintendo’s Mario franchise, following the 1986 Japanese anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Big Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros.

“Super Mario Bros. The Movie” premiered on April 5, 2023 in the United States, Latin America, Spain, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and will arrive in Japan on April 28, 2023.

“Super Mario Bros. The Movie” is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a script by Matthew Fogel and features a voice cast including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan- Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Sebastian Maniscalco, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Charles Martinet.
