In a recent press conference from the Vatican, Rome, the filmmaker explained that the idea of ​​making a Jesus film was born after a meeting he had with Pope Francis last weekend.
“I have responded to the Pope’s taste for artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a script for a film about Jesus.. And I’m ready to start it”revealed Martin Scorsese.
The meeting between the film director and Pope Francis was organized by Antonio Spadaro, editor of the Jesuit religious newspaper La Civiltà Cattolica, and by Georgetown University. The appointment was also attended by the wife of filmmaker Helen Morris.
During his conversation with the Supreme Pontiff, director Martin Scorsese spoke of his close relationship with the Catholic religion. In addition, he said that he was moved by the Pope’s call “so that we see Jesus.”
It should be noted that this would not be the first time that Martin Scorsese is in charge of a religious film. In 1998, the filmmaker directed “The Last Temptation of Christ,” starring William Dafoe.
