George Tickner, guitarist and co-founder of the rock band Journey, has died at the age of 76, his former partner Neal Schon indicated on his social networks.
Although Schon did not reveal the cause of death, he shared this message: “I have very sad news. George Tickner, Journey’s original rhythm guitarist and songwriting collaborator on their first three albums, has passed away..
George Tickner represented an important figure within the band, since he had been the co-founder and established the musical foundations of the group.
Tickner retired from Joruney in 1975 to fully devote himself to his professional career, having received a fellowship from Stanford Medical School.
His companions remember as a guitarist with revolutionary musical ideas. “Chords occurred to him that he had never heard. He had huge hands, he would tune the strings and come up with voicings that no one else could do ”, said fellow co-founder Gregg Rolie.
George Tickner was born in 1946 in the United States, Since he was a child he showed skills and interest in music. Before joining Journey he was a member of Fumious Bandersnatch.
In 2005, George Tickner reunited with Journey, the reason being that the band received a star in the Hall of Fame from Hollywood.
