Yalitza Aparicio returns to acting as the protagonist of the short film “Hijas de brujas”

Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio She is the protagonist of the short film “Hijas de brujas” by Mexican director Faride Schroeder, the first fiction in which she appears after her overwhelming success in “Roma” (2018).

“The magic and power of the female lineage are some of my obsessions as a woman and as a filmmaker. In ‘Daughters of witches’ I was able to narrate these same obsessions this time using gender ”, Schroeder mentioned in a statement.

The short film is part of the “Huluween” sample carried out by the streaming platform that belongs to Disney, Hulu, with which they look for new talents that intervene in the horror genre.

Schroeder, responsible for titles such as “Al ras” (2012) or “Mercy” (2014), was invited to be part of the project, and her short film in Spanish will show the mysticism of the Mexican worldview from the female point of view in a mystery work supernatural.

The face of the film is Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio, who was a fundamental piece in Schroeder’s story, according to the director herself. “Yalitza was the perfect actress for this story and I couldn’t be more excited that ‘Daughters of Witches’ is her first fiction released since ‘Roma'”, says the newsletter.

The short film – produced by Imaginary Voices for 20th Century Digital Studio – was co-written by Mario Muñoz and Karen Acosta.

One of the most important purposes of its creator was to show female stories from the horror genre, she said. The story can be seen from October 1 on Hulu in the United States and Mexico. In addition, “Daughters of witches” can be seen on the platform’s YouTube channel.

For his part, another great project that Aparicio is working on is the film by Mexican director Luis Mandoki “Presences” which is currently in pre-production.
