“The Erection of Toribio Bardelli”: When will the Peruvian representative debut at the Oscars?

The movie “The Erection of Toribio Bardelli”, directed by Adrián Saba and chosen as the Peruvian representative at the 2024 Oscar Awards, will hit commercial cinemas this October 26. Then, it will complete its international tour at other international festivals in order to be nominated for Best International Film.

“The Erection of Toribio Bardelli” features the leading performances of Gustavo Bueno, Gisela Ponce de León, Rodrigo Sánchez Patiño, Michele Abascal and Lucélia Santos.

The film tells the story of a dysfunctional family that is forced to reexamine their lives after the death of their mother. As father and sons come to terms with their own existence, “Toribio Bardelli’s Erection” becomes a tender and subtle meditation on grief.

In addition, it reaches commercial cinemas, after its passage as part of the official Fiction Competition selection of the 27 PUCP Lima Film Festival, a meeting in which it was shown along with other Peruvian feature films and other Latin American countries.

It should be noted that “The Erection of Toribio Bardelli” is Adrián Saba’s third film after “The Dreamer” (2016) and “The Cleaner” (2012). During these years Saba has participated in festivals such as San Sebastián, Cannes and the Berlinale in various categories and modalities.
