Susana Baca and Tony and Mimy Succar speak out after being nominated for the 2024 Grammys

Peruvian music dresses up with the news of the nominations for the 66th Grammy Awardsand among those featured are talented artists Mimy Succar and her son Tony Succar. Both compete in the Best Tropical Album category with their extraordinary joint project, simply titled “Mimy & Tony.” The duo’s nomination marks a milestone for the Succar family and for Latin music in general.

With songs like “No Me Acostumbro”, “Sin Fronteras” with La India & Haila Mompie, “Pa’ Lante un Pie”, “Quimbara”, and “AEO” with Cali Flow Latino and Mimy’s son, Kenyi, the album demonstrates the versatility and musical ability of the Succar dynasty. Collaborations with prominent artists such as José Alberto “El Canario”, Nora Suzuki of the Japanese band Orquesta De La Luz, and percussionist Marc Quiñones, further enrich this exceptional work.

Who do the Succars compete against?

The competition in the Best Tropical Album category is not easy at all. Los Succar face experienced groups and renowned singers, including Rubén Blades, Grupo Noche, Carlos Vives, Luis Figueroa and Omara Portuondo. The United States National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has brought together the best of the best, and the Peruvians are ready to make their mark.

Iconic singer Susana Baca has received her second Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Album category with her latest work, “Epifanías.” A musical feast that celebrates Afro-Peruvian roots and shows the rich cultural diversity of the country with 14 songs that include songs such as “Panalivio / Zancudito”, “El divino”, “In the name of god beginning”, “Pisa de humay”, among others further.

Who does Susana Baca compete against?

Epiphanies competes with notable works such as “History” by Bokanté, “I Told Them…” by Burna Boy, “Timeless” by Davido, and “This Moment” by Shakti. The deep connection to Afro-Peruvian roots imbued in every note of this album highlights Baca’s lasting influence on the global music scene.

Susana Baca’s career continues to garner recognition, and this second Grammy nomination is another notable achievement in her career. Adding to her merits, the singer had already received a Latin Grammy nomination in September, competing in the Best Folk Album category with her acclaimed work “Epifanías.”

In the race for the award, Baca faces prominent music colleagues. When will Peruvians compete for the 2024 Grammy?
