A woman’s body was left in a business class seat for 10 hours during a flight from the US to Brazil.

The passenger flew on an Azul Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Belo Horizonte, Brazil on November 7.

The body was left on board after the eight-hour flight so that police and coroners could investigate.

Passengers were allowed to leave the plane 40 minutes after landing.

The federal police confirmed through doctors at the airport that the woman died of natural causes.

The passenger’s age and nationality have not yet been released.

Azul Airlines said the woman suddenly fell ill during the flight.

The airline said in a statement: “Unfortunately, she did not survive the flight and died, as confirmed by an onboard doctor.”

The airline says it is helping the woman’s relatives.

Minas Gerais Civil Police said in a statement: “As soon as we became aware of the facts, we requested the presence of a hearse at Confins Airport to take the body to the Medico-Legal Institute.”

An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death.
