Nicole Zignago in her most “solid” stage: talks about her new songs, her current singleness and more

After exploring different genres, Nicole Zignago (Lima, 1995) returns to the sound of its beginnings: to its most honest pop essence. In this stage of his life, the most “solid” one, he says, nostalgia, love and heartbreak are his main sources of inspiration. “I don’t want to forget you” and “Bubble gum” are his most recent releases.

“A couple of years ago I gave myself absolute freedom, I experimented and ventured into doing different things: a more alternative pop, I investigated a little urban things. I returned to that essence that was always there and that in this production I took to its maximum power. Without ceasing to be faithful to the moment I am living, I always want to give myself the freedom to mutate and change,” says the singer-songwriter.

“I don’t want to forget you” is part of the album that Zignago Moro plans to release in 2024. The song was composed by the national artist. Describe the wounds that a separation leaves.

The song is not inspired by me. When I made it she was in love. That’s the beauty of composing. It is enough that you have experienced an emotion at some point in your life, so that you can connect with it at any time. And that gives you an infinite and extensive repertoire to be able to write about your own experiences or those of friends. In the end, music and art are there to play, create and tell stories that connect with the public”, he assures.

“With this topic I encourage you to forget about your ex-partners, because doing so is important. But don’t forget the battle scars or the nice things that person left you, because it’s part of the process. It is important to remember not only the damage it left us, but also the teachings”, he highlights.

Nicole has been releasing singles since mid-2020. Her latest release, “Bubble Gum,” is her most daring delivery. Written by Juan Ariza, Nicole Cohen and Zignago, it narrates with sensuality and freshness a love between two women.

A couple of years ago I gave myself the opportunity to be honest with myself and with the people around me, regarding my sexuality and the way I love. In what way do I love? In a free and beautiful way. And I felt that a love like that was not so represented in pop music. And to make it more spicy, I’m talking about super sensual things. I feel that it is nice to be able to capture in an authentic and honest way, without being vulgar, also the love between two women and sensuality. It’s a super fun song that talks about wanting to be stuck to someone like gum.”, he clarifies.

End of the romance

The singer nominated for the Latin Grammy 2022 in the Best New Artist category is currently single. After two years she ended her romance with the Mexican soccer player and photographer Fernanda Piña, whom she thanks for the love and drive she gave her to achieve her dreams. during the time the relationship lasted.

We are no longer together, but everything is fine. Life goes on, songs come and the album comes where all this is told in a very beautiful way. (Fernanda) It has been super great support and an incredible boost. We made a team. I’m super grateful. We must thank the people with whom we decide to share because we would not be who we are or where we are if we had not given ourselves the chance to share with them.”, he asserts.

Signed by Warner Chappell Latin since 2019 and living in Mexico for two years, Zignago has written “1,2,3″ for Sofía Reyes ft. Jason Derulo and DeLaGhetto, and “Taxi” for Guaynaa. She also has collaborations with international artists such as “La Ola” with Marco Mares, “Miento” with Leonel García and “Look Back” with the Spanish Vic Mirallas.

On my album I have a very nice collaboration, we already have practically everything ready, we are going to release it before July of next year”, he highlights after pointing out that he would love to collaborate with Daniela Darcourt. “I don’t know how a salsa would come out because I don’t sing salsa, but if it calls me, I’m happy. It’s a layer”, he nods.

Then I fell in love with Alanis Morissette, Kany García, Sin Bandera, and when I went to university a world of different color palettes and sounds opened up to me. I have had influences from all sides. And these last few years, I’ve taken the time to solidify my sound. I have a very clear direction, I am proud of the way I am making music. I’m in a solid moment. The best of my life so far”, he assures.
