Nobel Prize for Literature 2021: When and where to see the announcement of the winner of the highest prize for literature?

The world of letters awaits with anticipation the announcement of its greatest award. And it is that this Thursday, October 7, the Swedish Academy will announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2021.

The prestigious award is awarded annually to the best representatives of various disciplines such as Medicine or Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Peace and Economics, which will be announced between October 4 and 11.

In the case of the Nobel Prize winners in Literature, they recognize the literary men who have demonstrated an admirable career. Among its winners are Latin American writers of the stature of Mario Vargas Llosa (2010), Octavio Paz (1990) and Gabriel García Márquez (1982), Pablo Neruda (1971) and Gabriela Mistral (1945).

The last two winners of this award were the American poet Louise lucky (2020) and the Austrian novelist Peter Handke (2019), both delivered last year after a sex scandal hit the institution causing the postponement of the 2019 delivery. The Nobel Prize for Literature also awards its winner the amount of 10 million Swedish crowns, the equivalent of 4 million 728 thousand new soles.

The winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced this Thursday, October 7, starting at 1 pm Central European Summer Time (CEST), equivalent to 6 am Peruvian time.

The attention that falls on the winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature is partly due to attempts to predict who will win this year. On this occasion, among the favorites to win is the Japanese writer again Haruki Murakami, the Kenyan Ngugi Wa Thiongo, the Canadian poet Anne Carson and his compatriot Margaret Atwood. Among Spanish-speaking writers, Spanish stands out Javier Cercas, author of novels such as “Soldiers of Salamina” and “Terra Alta”.

However, the Swedish Academy has managed to maintain the suspense over the winner from year to year, setting aside predictable options to award the Nobel Prize for Literature to ‘outsiders’ of the genre like the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in 2016.
