Francisca Aronsson will come of age: “I want to be 18 because it will open doors for me, but at the same time I don’t want to reach that age”

He arrived from Spain, where he is currently filming a series for Netflix. Before, she was in Mexico recording “LaLola” for VIX +, and in Chile, the film “Perra vida”. In the Spanish market she was also part of “El Internado: Las Cumbres” (Prime Video) and the third season of “HIT”, an RTVE series. Francisca Aronsson He is 17 years old and has already spent half his life from set to recording set. Three months after reaching the age of majority (June 12), the artist talks to us about her more than promising international career, the casting she did for a blockbuster Marvel film and how she experiences the transition from adolescence to adult life .

I have mixed feelings about the 18 year old thing. I want to fulfill them because it will open doors for me at a professional level. There are many characters and castings that I couldn’t access due to age issues. The Elite series is one of them. But, at the same time, I don’t want to reach that age because being younger saves me problems (laughs). Once, out of confusion, I used my brother’s card on the subway. They noticed, but because of my age they didn’t fine me. They overlooked it. In addition, child protection is strong. Somehow I feel more protected”Aronsson Grande agrees.

In 2020 he had his first major international casting for a series on Amazon Prime. Since then, the actress travels every two or three months to different places in the world, trying new opportunities, getting to know different cultures and thoughts. Although, moving away from her loved ones to fulfill her professional goals has not been easy, she says.

I appreciate everything that is happening to me. I’m enjoying it, but I must admit that the family is missed. Many times I have felt alone. If I have had a romantic partner? Never. Because of the pace of life I lead, it is difficult for me to establish a connection of that type with someone. It is also difficult to find a person my age who has the maturity to understand my work, the trips and the kisses in the scenes. I don’t have a boyfriend, but I’m not looking for either.“, he says.

The actress nominated for the Kid’s Choice Awards Mexico 2021 and Unicef ambassador was born in Sweden. She lived her early years in Spain and in the jungle of Bolivia. She arrived in Peru when she was seven years old. At that age she had her first encounter with children’s theater. A year later she appeared for the first time on Peruvian television in a children’s sequence of the program “Gisela Valcárcel, El gran show”.

Francisca is currently filming a Spanish series for Netflix. Regarding this, he announced that it is a large and successful project that has several seasons. “I can’t say which one it is because it is confidential. Being part of this project excites me because I am a fan. I’m happy”, he assures.

─In “Perra vida” you played a Chilean teenager. You were the only foreigner in the film. Why do you think they didn’t look for an actress from Chile for the role?

I asked myself that question several times. I couldn’t explain why they chose me as a Peruvian, not living in Chile or having the accent. I had to prepare myself. It was a giant challenge. Last year when I went to Mexico to film “LaLola,” I asked Joshua Mintz, one of the producers of that series, why they chose me. He told me that he was very talented, that there was no one like me. Obviously, those comments gave me confidence.

─“LaLola” was the first production you recorded in Mexico?

That’s how it is. But, previously, I received another job proposal, also for VIX+. It was for “Mischiefs of the Bad Girl,” the series based on the novel by Mario Vargas Llosa. I couldn’t accept it because I was recording the series “HIT” and it was impossible to accommodate dates. I was very sad because I was excited to participate in a series related to Vargas Llosa, because I have known him since I was eight months old. My parents were in meetings where he and people from the Spanish government were. I have photos. Then, I interviewed him at the Book Fair, when he was eleven years old. I came across it at different stages of my life, I was sad that it didn’t happen on that occasion.

─How was your relationship with Bárbara de Regil, in “LaLola”, an actress who is said to be “rude and arrogant”?

(Laughs) I love her. I stayed at her house several times, we had sleepovers, we slept together. She is wonderful. She was like a mother to me. She protected me, she took care of me, she taught me a lot. It was a pleasure to work with her. I had a great time, we had deep talks. She adored her.

─“LaLola”, while entertaining you, also makes you reflect, because it talks about machismo and misogyny, issues that affect the world. How do you deal with those issues?

Unfortunately, we have begun to normalize those behaviors. We think they are part of life and that they are okay. It happened to us when we recorded, there was sexist behavior. Since it was normalized, they didn’t realize it. Then they apologized to the director and the actors. I experienced it from a very young age, but since my mother works on sexual and reproductive health issues, and she has an NGO that helps poor migrant women, I always had an open mind. My parents always taught me that we are all equal and have the same rights and opportunities.

─When you started acting, did you imagine the dimension your career would have?

When I started, at 8 years old, in “Mother’s Love”, “At the bottom there is room” or “Margarita”, I didn’t think all this would happen. Every step has surprised me and made me fall in love. If I had not started exploring other industries or investing, without knowing what would happen, there probably would not have been all this personal and professional growth. It wasn’t easy, I had to knock on many doors. I’m going to tell you something I’ve never told you. When I went to Chile to dub some voices for the movie “Margarita”, I took the opportunity to visit some artist representation agencies. I was nine years old. That day, which I don’t forget, the lady who served us was super rude, she didn’t even look at us. She yelled at us. It was very uncomfortable.

─Have you ever thought about giving up on your dreams?

When I went a year without getting projects, I thought many things about my future. I thought I was a failure. It was during the pandemic. I was in Sweden. I felt out of the world. I had made more than 7 films and a lot of series, but at that time nothing was working. My representative told me that he had talent and potential, not to throw in the towel. It was a complicated moment.

─What was the most demanding casting you’ve done?

It was one from Marvel. When my representative told me that they wrote to him from the Marvel casting director’s offices, Sarah Finn, I was excited. It was the first time she aspired to a Hollywood role. It was all in English. They didn’t tell me the character’s name, I just knew it was for the second part of a movie. After sending my casting, they sent an email to my representative, telling him to please reserve four or six months, which was the filming time of the film. I already saw myself recording with Benedict Cumberbatch and all the actors in Hong Kong. I was among the finalists, but I didn’t get the role. It was for the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (2022). He was postulating the character América Chávez. The casting was worldwide. They told me that they were going to keep me in mind for a next opportunity.

─Who was left in the end?

The actress Xochitl Gómez. She has the features of the comic. I met her, she is a great actress.

─Is Hollywood one of your main goals?

It is a market I want to reach. I have an agency that represents me. It’s called DePaz Management, but so far I don’t have the permits to work. That takes time.

─What artists do you have as references or with whom would you like to share a scene?

With Natalie Portman, I love her. And I decree that I am going to do it. At whatever age, but I will do it. I would also like to work with Martin Scorsese. He is one of the producers I admire the most.

─What is it like growing up in the public eye and dealing with harassment about your physique and artistic work on social media, where you have more than a million followers?

In fact, it is not easy. It is a great responsibility to know that more than one and a half million people have decided to follow me. From little girls to 60 year old women. As a Unicef ambassador I must take great care of what I publish. On social media there are inappropriate, out of place, offensive comments about my body, my face, my work. They say that I changed, that I underwent surgeries. One day I was calm, eating a watermelon in Colombia, when I was 14 years old, and I received news that on national TV they said that I had rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, facial contouring and liposuction. When did I do all that?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

There are ups and downs in this career, but I see myself as very successful, regardless.
