Dangerous friendships: “There are memories of difficult situations. There are wounds that are still there”

In 1989, Alberto Comesaña (Vigo, 1960) and Cristina del Valle (Oviedo, 1960) went from being an explosive love duet to an artistic one so successful that it ended up devouring their “personal relationship,” says the Spanish artist. Dangerous friendships It went from effervescence to agony and, later, temporary separation, because in 2021, the singers made a “Cease Fire” and returned to the stage together. Next May 4, the 90s will be presented at the Molan festival, at the Cúpula de las Artes del Jockey, in Santiago de Surco.

Our separation was about healing wounds. It was a very complicated and conflictive relationship. We started living together overnight and in less than a year we found ourselves with great success in our faces. It was crazy. We were left without our own spaces, there was no time even for ourselves”says del Valle.

The romance, the disagreements and the separation of the former romantic partner occurred on stage with the audience as a witness. “Alberto and I did what our hearts told us and, incredibly, everything that was an element of pain for the personal relationship became an element of success for our work. People lived a novel live because we got angry, watched and discussed live. We brought our real lives to the stage”, highlights the Spanish interpreter.

This new beginning of Dangerous Friendships came with “Alto al fuego”, a single that describes the feelings of both on a night of reunion, in 2019.

“This song, which isIt is a declaration of principles, of intentions, of trying and enjoying this second chance that life gives us, ctells in a quite literal way what happened that day. We met at a concert, the first post-pandemic. We were sincere, without duplicity. We told each other everything”comments Comesaña.

It is a stop to discrepancies. For both of us it was important to get together again because of everything we experienced and the duo meant. Furthermore, we owed it to the Latin American public who loved us so much. Over the years, coexistence becomes very complex and difficult, and people need to take a breath and also do other projects.“, Cristina emphasizes after clarifying that they do not live on nostalgia, on memories. They look at the past with the feeling of having lived intensely, but they also value the moments that the present gives them.

I don’t like the word nostalgia because I visualize it as if you are left living off the memory. I like more the fact that you come from the past to deliver the entire experience and style of Dangerous Liaisons to the present. That despite the time that has passed, it remains original, identifiable and unique”Details Cristina.

Many people of our generation are not interested or satisfied by current music. So, they take refuge in what is known, in the music of the 80s and 90s. I think that nostalgia is linked to that, to the fact that there are many of us who do not agree with the style of music that stuck. It’s like a refuge“Adds Alberto.

More than three years after this artistic reconciliation, Cristina assures that the wounds of the soul have not yet healed. They are still open, but they stopped hurting a long time ago.

Closing wounds means healing the mind and sometimes it is not easy. There are memories of hard situations. We were exposed to very difficult situations where you discover parts of yourself that you don’t like, but that are there. “I think there are wounds that are still there,” says the artist..

At this stage of full maturity, Dangerous Friendships does not seek to recover the success of the 90s. The duo’s priority is to enjoy what they do and that their audience enjoys them.

The success that was had in the 90s passed. They were other times, another philosophy of life. Back then, when I imagined what my life would be like in 2024, I didn’t see myself singing ‘I’m for you’ or ‘You do me so much good.’ However, now that I see the audience enjoying and feeling those songs, I find it sexy. I look good, young in mind. As long as the body, the head and the voice respond, we will continue here”, emphasizes Comesaña.
