Richard Linklater, director of “Boyhood”, will receive the Honor Award at the Barcelona Film Fest

American filmmaker Richard Linklater will receive the Honor Award of the BCN Film Fest in Barcelona on April 26, the organization of the international competition reported this Monday.

Linklater will be awarded during the closing gala of the festival, which will take place on April 26, and in which he will present his latest film, ‘Hit Man’, an unusual comedy welcomed at the Venice Festival as one of the best works of his career.

The competition grants him the Honor Award, which Wim Wenders received last year, in recognition of his career. “one of the most relevant and personal directors of contemporary world cinema, author of films that have marked different generations of film lovers.”

Born in Houston in 1960, Linklater is one of the main exponents of independent cinema of the 90s and his filmography includes ‘Slacker’ (1990), ‘Dazed and confused’ (1993), his acclaimed trilogy ‘Before Sunrise’ (1995 ), ‘Before Sunset’ (2004) and ‘Before Midnight’ (2013), starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and ‘Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood’ (2022).

With ‘Boyhood’ (2014), filmed intermittently for 12 years with the same actors, Linklater obtained great recognition from the public and critics, and awards such as the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin Festival, 3 Golden Globes, 2 Spirit Awards and the Oscar for best supporting actress for Patricia Arquette.

Linklater is the artistic director of the Austin Film Society, one of the largest film organizations in the country, which operates a movie theater showing films from around the world, manages a film studio, and has awarded more than 2.2 million dollars in grants to Texas filmmakers.
