ICPNA presents a dramatized reading of “Anna Christie” by Eugene O’Neill

Eugene O’Neill, one of the most important playwrights of the 20th century, is known for his deeply human works that explore personal and social conflicts. Winner of four Pulitzer Prizes and the Nobel Prize in Literature, his legacy includes such classics as “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and “The Iceman Cometh.” Among his most notable works is “Anna Christie”a piece that has resonated with audiences since its premiere on Broadway in 1921 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Best Play of the Year.

The Peruvian North American Cultural Institute (ICPNA) presents a dramatized reading of “Anna Christie”, directed by Nadine Vallejo, on Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00 pm at the ICPNA Miraflores Auditorium. The reading will feature the participation of a cast of renowned actors, including Macla Yamada, Omar García, Gonzalo Torres, Magali Bolívar and Daniel Cano. In addition, the ICPNA Quartet, composed of María Foust, Pamela Mañueco, Iván Pierantozzi and Franklin Gargate, who also acts as musical director, will accompany the presentation with live music.

“Anna Christie” tells the story of a woman seeking redemption while facing her painful past. The work, which explores themes such as abandonment, child abuse, prostitution and machismo, remains relevant today, offering a deep reflection on human destiny and the struggle for personal improvement.

Since its Broadway debut, “Anna Christie” has become a challenge for high-caliber actresses. Greta Garbo, Lola Membrives, Celeste Holm, Liv Ullman, Nuria Espert, Natasha Richardson and Ruth Wilson are just some of the performers who have brought the complex character of Anna to life over the years.
