Virtual theater: La Sangre renews its billboard

They were among the first to come out with a virtual proposal. And, unlike the vast majority, they avoided the Zoom. In the midst of the anxiety of not knowing when the theater face-to-face in all its splendor, the production company La Sangre opts for Instagram, a platform that it has managed to take advantage of.

Its commitment to digital, says its director David Ames, began two years before the pandemic. His idea was to ally himself with producers and directors who had not found a space in the small Lima circuit, and create an application with content ‘on demand’ (a kind of Teatrix).

The coronavirus pandemic, like everyone else, he overthrew his plans.

At that time we thought that if we were not going to be able to have a new platform, then we would be the ones who would approach a platform that was already used by the public. Taking advantage of Instagram tools, we considered the possibility of using ‘live’ as a new way of telling a fiction”.

Others used the Whatsapp, Zoom and even phone calls; Instagram was the best option for them.

And now that they are about to return with a new season – “The Midnight Club ”and“ Hotline, emergency call ”-, how did it go? “In relation to the number of spectators, in very general lines, it could be said that the scope is still less”.

But The Blood sees the glass full. “The main attraction of being on the Internet is that the space is unlimited. Theaters, on the contrary, are subject to their architecture and the situation, so attendance may be less”.

WHAT IS COMING

Throughout this process, Ames says they felt comfortable and motivated by the format. “In fact, we think that theatricality has belatedly joined virtuality”.

The very foundation of the theater is the interpretation of the human being in relation to his circumstances, and, for a long time, the circumstances are not only developed in a face-to-face, but also virtual plane. With this arises the need to stage this phenomenon in order to confront it, understand it and discover it”.

Going forward, Ames says, they plan to walk the edges of what is known as virtual theater, regardless of whether the pandemic subsides or not. “This, as well as many other digital formats, will remain active, regardless of the health situation.”.
