Amalia Aguilar: the actress of the golden age of Mexican cinema who married a Peruvian dies

Cuban actress Amalia Aguilar died last Monday, November 8, at the age of 97. The family of the representative of the golden age of the mexican cinema made the news known through his social networks.

“RIP Amalia Aguilar. Today we say goodbye to the mother, the grandmother, the actress but especially the friend. May your light caress the life of everyone who vibrates within your heart, thank you for being our guide and strength. Forever your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren ”, it reads in the post.

The Cuban was born on July 3, 1924 and had just celebrated her 97th birthday with her family. So far no further details have been provided about the causes of death, but it was learned that his body would be buried in the Panteón Jardín, located in Mexico City.

Amalia Isabel Rodríguez Carriera, better known as Amalia Aguilar in the artistic world, was an actress who achieved fame thanks to her appearance on the big screen between the 40s and 50s.

She was born in Matanzas, Cuba; but years later he moved to Mexico where he managed to nationalize. Amalia became one of the greatest exponents of cinema in the golden age of Mexican cinema.

Also called “The Atomic Bomb”, Aguilar participated in films such as “Calabacitas tender” (1949) with Germán Valdés “Tin tan”, “Al son del mambo” (1950) with Adalberto Martínez “Springs” and “Mis tres viudas alegres ”(1953) next to Silvia Pinal and Lilia del Valle.

Likewise, the actress decided to try her luck in Hollywood in the film “A night at the follies” (1947), but decided to continue betting on Mexican cinema.

Another of her passions was dance and thanks to her particular way of dancing, she managed to establish herself as one of the greatest rumberas of the time. Although, after many years on stage, Amalia Aguilar decided to move away from acting in 1955 to dedicate herself to her family.

She married the Peruvian doctor Raúl Beraún Bedoya with whom she had three children: Daphne, Raúl and Jorge, and settled in our country where she founded her chain of taquerías. “The idea of ​​having my house, my husband and my children took root in my mind. I said to myself, why do I want to be a star if I can’t have a family? “, he told in an interview with El Universal.

Sadly, almost seven years later, her husband was killed in a plane crash. For this reason, Amalia decides to return to Mexico in 1976 with her children. Since then he has had sporadic appearances in acting, as in the movie “Give me your body” (2003).

Amalia Aguilar was awarded the Diosa de Plata prize, awarded by the Mexican Film Journalists Association (PECIME) in recognition of her artistic life.
