David Bowie: Heirs of the singer negotiate with Warner Music the sale of their musical catalog

The record company Warner Music is negotiating with the heirs of David Bowie to get hold of the catalog of all the songs that the British artist wrote, according to the “Financial Times” newspaper this Wednesday.

According to this medium, which cites sources close to the negotiation, Warner Music is collecting a debt of 535 million dollars (472 million euros) to be able to face the operation and other similar ones, at a time of bonanza for musical rights thanks to platforms like Spotify.

Bowie’s heirs have long been trying to sell the songbook of the author of “Ziggy Stardust” and have received offers of about $ 200 million. (176 million euros).

At the moment Warner Music is leading the way in the negotiations but an agreement has not yet been reached, adds the “FT”.

The news comes just two months after the record giant announced that it had acquired the rights to all the albums Bowie recorded throughout his career.

Copyrights on recorded discs are different from those on songs, which are what Warner Music now claims. Bowie, who passed away in 2016, bequeathed his estate to his second wife, the Somali-born model Iman, and their two children.
