Disney cruises will request vaccines against the coronavirus to children from 5 years old

The cruise company Disney Cruise Lines will require from January 13 to travel that children from 5 years of age be fully vaccinated against the covid-19, as it already required of adults and children 12 years of age and older.

The company reported in a message on its website about this measure to prevent contagion aboard its ships, which is supported by the decision of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to authorize the vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years.

Now that we have returned to sailing, our “top priority” is to maintain the health and safety of passengers and crew, says a message from Disney Cruise Lines.

“Our focus remains operating our ships in a responsible manner that continues to create magic for everyone on board,” the company adds.

Until January 13, children between the ages of 5 and 11 may travel unvaccinated.

People 12 years of age and older who have not been vaccinated and want to travel on Disney cruise ships must provide negative evidence of covid-19 made between three days and 24 hours before the ship’s departure date.

A law promoted by the governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, prohibits shipping companies from requiring vaccination certificates to board cruise ships, but its application is blocked by a lawsuit by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings that alleges that it has the right to take that measure to prevent contagions.

A judge agreed with the cruise company in the first instance, but the ambassador appealed the ruling to an appeals court that has not yet issued its decision.

Precisely, the Florida Congress, controlled by the Republican Party, approved on Wednesday four bills to shield this state against federal measures that require vaccination against the covid-19.

DeSantis, who will seek reelection in 2022, is up against Democratic President Joe Biden, especially when it comes to handling the pandemic and vaccines.

Florida is one of the states with the most accumulated cases of covid-19, totaling more than 3.67 million since March 2020, and more deaths from the disease, with more than 60,000.
