Erick Elera and the day Raúl Romero met him at a café to propose him to host a game show | INTERVIEW

Erick Elera He has just released “Vaso full”, his new single in collaboration with Makano, and in a few months we will see him again playing Joel Gonzales in “There is room in the background”. For two decades, singing and acting have been their livelihoods. Music opened the doors to acting, TV hosting and fame. He took him along paths he always dreamed of traveling. “God willing, I hope this never happens,” he agrees.

“Currently I am dedicated to music, with Makano, a very talented artist, whom I have always admired, we have released ‘Vaso full’. The theme is written by everyone. We the singers, ‘Chino Maiden’, who is my producer and DJ Explosion, plus two talented guys Vinces and Boris. We have all put our hand so that the song comes out beautiful ”, The national artist stands out, who debuted singing professionally when he was 17 years old.

-Your musical beginnings date back to the early 2000s, when you were part of The young sensation. How do you get to that group?

I always sang, I started having orchestras and small groups in my neighborhood of Villa María del Triunfo, then I did castings, until I joined La Joven Sensación. It was incredible, my first plane trips came, my first time on a stage with many people… Feeling the energy of the girls screaming, signing autographs, taking photos… it was a very beautiful and unforgettable experience.

-Why did the group disband?

Because it completed a cycle, besides, young people were no longer so young and youth groups began to go out of style. I remember that I was the one who was the saddest because I didn’t know what to do, I started knocking on doors, studying acting. Luckily I didn’t stay with my arms crossed, I kept searching, fighting and here I am: I continue doing what I like.

-Then comes the miniseries “El Profe” and your first acting experience. How did you come to this series?

I think the music helped me, because at the castings I went to, I said that I had been in The young sensation. It was like my cover letter. He was 23 years old, he was studying acting at Iguana Producciones and at the same time he sang in an orchestra that was not known. Precisely, during a presentation, two girls approached me to ask me if I wanted to act, do a casting. Susana Bamonde, producer of Imizu, was the one who gave me the opportunity. Later I did things with Michelle Alexander, like “Nectar en el cielo” and “Los del Barrio”.

-But it was with “Al fondo hay lugar” and Joel Gonzales that you achieved greater popularity. Did you also arrive by casting for that series?

I have always knocked on doors despite the fact that I have heard people from my time say that if someone wants to work with them, they should call them. And that doesn’t get you anywhere good. For “In the background there is room” I called the casting director. The day of the test, Efraín gave us some recommendations, he told us to let go and do what we wanted because it was a comedy. Then came another casting about coexistence between brothers and I had the opportunity to do it with Mayra Couto. They finally came out calling us both.

-Do you think that the ninth season of “Al fondo hay lugar” surpasses the previous ones?

Television has changed a lot, its rating levels are different now. I think what matters is that people get hooked on the story, that they want to see it. I trust that it will be so, that it will continue to be the number one program.

-Is it true that Joel Gonzales is inspired by you?

It’s a repowered Erick. My friends told me that Joel was me, that I didn’t act; but it’s not like that because he went too far, he was crazy in every way, on the other hand I know how to respect spaces, I’m modest.

-What is the scene of “In the background there is a place” that you remember with greatest affection?

There are several, but I loved the beginning, when we recorded in Ayacucho, when the story just begins. I did a scene where my clothes are being thrown off a balcony and I’m downstairs in boxers. The ladies who passed by laughed and whistled at me. I felt uncomfortable, but the advice of Irma Maury and Mónica Sánchez helped me a lot. Irma told me: “If you do this, everything else will seem easy to you, you will be able to do it”. So it was. Then I became horny, ha ha ha.

-Nataniel Sánchez will not be in this season. How did you receive the news that it will not continue in the series?

In fact, it saddens me a lot, although there are several months left to start recording, anything can happen. I trust they can convince her.

-One of the most popular badges in the series is ‘Fish Face Boy’. How is it born?

Magdyel Ugaz put it on me and I don’t understand why. He says I have a fish face. Since we were family in the series, it was my aunt, she couldn’t let go of the button, instead Isabella (Karina Calmet), who was my mother-in-law and hated me, could. He told me: “Horrible, fish-faced boy.” It happened, ha, ha, ha.

-Would you like Flavia to follow in your footsteps in acting?

It was nice that my daughter is in the most important series in the history of Peru, but we don’t know what will happen, it will depend on her. If you want to dedicate yourself to this beautiful career we will see later.

-In 2011 you made your debut as host of “Very Verano” together with Nataniel. How do you remember that experience?

I love everything related to art and on that occasion I always tried to be myself. It was a fun experience, it went very well for us. It was like an experiment, it had the essence of shows like “Habacilar” and “R con Erre”. I greatly admire Raúl Romero and not only as a driver, but also as a singer; I find it quite respectable, as well as very funny. For “Very Verano” it was he who called me.

Did Raúl propose to you to lead the program?

He quoted me in a cafe to make me the proposal. He told me that he wanted me to do a job similar to his, but that he also put mine into it. He was the first person who trusted me to drive and I appreciate that very much. I will never forget that day, it was fun, he paid the bill by card. When they brought him the POS he grabbed it as if it were a cell phone, everyone laughed. After that I had the opportunity to host a program in Bolivia called “Hot Summer” for three months.

And what did you take from Raúl’s driving style?

Being spontaneous. When Raúl couldn’t read the guideline, he didn’t have any problems, he approached, he was spontaneous, fresh, he knew how to handle the tones of voice, and if he wanted to throw himself on the floor, he did. I have that idea of what it’s like to be an animator.

Have you been asked to drive “This is war”?

There has always been an approach with the people of Pro TV, they have told me to drive, but we have never agreed on anything concrete. I don’t know if my style is to lead a program like this, it’s a bit complicated format, it’s not relaxed. Something full of fun, games, like ‘Very Verano’, I would love it.

Is it true that you have a millionaire collection of cars?

Nothing to see. I have two cars that I like, that I always wanted to have (one of them is a Corvette Stingray), and a truck that I move around with. People get confused because I used to have other cars, but I sold them to buy the ones I have now. What I do have is a collection of 1.18 scale cars.

What is the most rewarding thing that art has given you?

To be able to live from what I like the most: art. I don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t go to those castings, I don’t know what I would be doing now. God willing, I hope this never happens.
