The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G maintains solvency, but owes us “a jump”

The Redmi Note 11 family is one of the strong bets of Xiaomi around the world this year. A few weeks ago I was able try the most basic modeland now it’s time to tell you how it went with the older brother, who has just been presented in the Peruvian market.

The situation is very simple: this new model brings some quite interesting novelties that improve the experience. However, the key here is to know if this new proposal really means “a leap” compared to to the remembered Redmi Note 10 Proone of the best mid-range devices of last year.

Although I have had to test many devices of the Redmi family, I have had the opportunity to evaluate the Pro versions of the model 8, 9 Y 10and they all made two things clear to me: the evidence of improvement between model and model, and that these Redmi Note Pro represented the brand’s philosophy, being the best in price-benefit. In the case of this Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, some novelties are notorious, but they did not convince me that there was real progress as in previous years. Next, I will detail my reasons.

What things have you improved on?

In several and it is worth highlighting them. East Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G Start by reformulating your design. Now it has become a more serious device, very striking and elegant. Its matte finish, its straight lines on the sides give it a lot of presence. If to all this we add the rearrangement of its camera module -which does not unbalance the design idea- we have a very attractive team. In the distribution of buttons and connectors, compared to last year’s model, everything is maintained, except for the tray for the nano SIM and the memory card, which is now located on the bottom edge.

Be careful, this device is thin but -comparatively- it is a little heavier than last year’s model.

The screen has also improved. It goes from AMOLED to Super AMOLED, giving it not only greater brightness and color, but also increases tactile sensitivity, which translates especially when it comes to video games.

Although in its general design this Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has adopted a more elegant and attractive appearance, it maintains the same location of its different buttons and connectors. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)

The latest development has to do with the battery. Although in this model it is reduced from 5,020 mAh to 5,000 mAh -which has become the standard in most mobile devices- it maintains good energy management. With intense use, you can calmly reach the end of the day with around 20% battery. Here the key is that it now includes a 67W wall adapter, which allows you to have a recharge from 0% to 50% in less than half an hour, and reach 100% in less than 60 minutes.

I forgot, because there was one more novelty: this device is compatible with 5G networks.

What things have you kept?

East Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G it maintains much of its connectivity, such as the headphone jack, the stereo speakers, the infrared sensor, a good speed in its fingerprint sensor and in its facial recognition.

Keep screen size [aunque el nuevo modelo aprovecha más área]just as we continue with the possibility of having a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

It is important to remember that it maintains a good performance in general. East Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G includes the increasingly popular Virtual RAM feature [usando parte del almacenamiento del equipo]which in this case is 3GB. It is fluid and did not cause me any serious discomfort during the time I had it in use. However, on this I must make a clarification: the models that the brand distributed for the tests were 8GB of RAM, when the version that will be marketed locally will be the 6GB one. I just hope that this difference is not so noticeable.

What can you improve on?

The most notorious is in the cameras section. But don’t get me wrong: the cameras of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G They generally do a good job. But what seems striking to me is that there is no obvious improvement in a section as sensitive as this. Moreover, I can even say that there has been a setback in the cameras, especially in the possibilities available to users.

Having good shots with the macro lens of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G depends on many factors such as lighting, the pulse of the photographer, etc. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)

The fact that the 2021 version has four sensors and this year’s has three, should be an indication. It repeats the 108 MP main sensor and the 8MP ultra wide angle. It no longer has the 2MP ToF sensor and the macro is reduced from 5MP to 2MP. The front remains.

Here it goes like this: in photographs the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G can deliver good results, but video is where the debt is most felt.

The front camera of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G seems to me to have improved its results. In this case, the photo was taken in Portrait Mode, to create the blur. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)

With the various photo modes you can achieve images with good detail and vivid colors, although there are still times when you notice that the equipment cannot deal with too much light and ends up burning some areas of the shots. In Night Mode, the device tries to do its best work, but it is not its forte. I was very surprised by the results with the front camera.

Low lighting continues to be one of the main enemies of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G cameras. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)
This is what the photo taken with the Portrait Mode of the main cameras of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G looks like. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)

As I mentioned before, the big debt is on video. In last year’s model you could record up to 4K and there was a choice between 30fps and 60fps. With the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G the most we can get is to record at 1080p at 30fps, without stabilizer. Also, Night Mode is not available for ultra wide angle.

The camera module integrates very well with the rest of the design. Be careful, despite showing up to five spaces, in reality the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has only three available cameras. (Photo: Bruno Ortiz B.)

Just as an anecdote I can mention that the main module gives us the impression that it has five sensors, but in reality it only has three and the other two spaces are occupied by the LED flash and by a signal that refers to the artificial intelligence of the camera. camera.

Price and availability

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has just been launched in Peru at a price of S / 1,599, although by introduction it includes a Redmi Watch 2 Litethrough the official Xiaomi sales channels: the Xiaomi Store physical stores, the official website www.xiaomioficial.pethe main operators in the country, department stores, supermarkets and specialized stores.

Who should buy a Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G?

Before answering that question, we must remember that this Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G It’s a pretty balanced team. Taking this into account, users who come from other lower-ranking devices in the brand or from versions 8 or 9 of the Redmi Note Pro They are the ones who will most appreciate the proposal of this new team.

However, for users who were hoping to renew their Redmi Note 10 Pro, it is likely that they will not feel a great evolution. They could even more easily identify missing features.

Although Xiaomi He has taken care to keep his beloved Redmi Note family in good condition, it seems to me that it is the first time in several years that he preferred to play it safe. And if we add to this that the launch price may seem high for some users, it could be expected that this segment of the public will wait a little longer before renewing equipment.
