Limoges: paid parking clinic outrages patients

“This is unacceptable, this is theft!” At the automatic checkout, when it comes time to pay for parking, Eric becomes furious. Next to him is his mother, just released from the hospital, her head bandaged. He accompanied her to the Chenier Polyclinic in Limoges (Haut Vienna), unaware that he would have to pay for parking.

“In principle, I don’t think it’s normal to pay for treatment. We are witnessing the privatization of the healthcare world. One way or another, we now pay everywhere and always. I brought it this morning and paid 2.40 euros. I’ll be back to pick it up this afternoon, I have it for 1.20 euros more! »

The polyclinic decided to make the existing 800 beds payable due to rising electricity prices. The first thirty minutes are free, but cost €1.20 for one hour and €2.80 for two hours. For five hours, patients have to pay 7.60 euros.

“It’s not about making money, it’s about stopping losing it”

“We were pushed by economic issues. We have an increase of more than one million euros related to the cost of electricity, heating and lighting of the clinic. This put us in the red, and for the first time we found ourselves in a deficit situation. This decision was made with regret. We have so far refused to take the plunge. The question is not to earn money, but to stop losing it, ”justifies Cecile Blanc, director of the polyclinic.

Two other facilities in Limoges, the Ophthalmological Center (200 spaces) and the Émailleurs-Colombier car park (300 spaces), will also become payable in the coming days.

“People are not very happy. But there are also many who understand,” the director continues, noting that if the car park of the University Hospital of Limoges is now paid, then this is exactly the same as the car parks in the city where you park to get to other medical appointments. “Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to do otherwise. »
