Medical merit: Michel-Edouard Leclerc advocates the installation of telemedicine booths in his supermarkets

Should you consult a doctor while shopping? Michel-Edouard Leclerc assessed in any case this Thursday that the installation of telemedicine booths in supermarkets was “a very good idea”. The head of the Leclerc brands was questioned on Sud Radio about the matter, a week after the announcement of the SNCF, which will install 15 m2 telemedicine centers in almost 300 stations by 2028. Michel-Edouard Leclerc said he would go “to have a look.” Loxamed, the “medical company” responsible for this deployment.

However, this Monday the Order of Physicians expressed “very deep concern” about the announcement of such a device in French stations. “This proposal will divert health workers, who will thus be less prepared to work in the most vulnerable areas,” he condemned, calling on SNCF to “improve rail connections to the most isolated areas, which is a real problem for the “attractiveness of areas with regard to the employment of health workers.”

At the same time, the Leclerc group has been expressing a desire for many years to be able to sell medicines. Its president this Thursday morning again demanded the right to sell “parapharmaceutical” products “for the elderly” and “medical equipment for nurses.” He supported his point by citing the example of masks and self-tests, which, in particular, were sold in supermarkets during the Covid-19 pandemic.
