The consultation lasted only two minutes and thirty seconds with the watch in hand. During a teleconsultation scheduled for Doctolib, the GP we reported our back pain to gave us a prescription for Tramadol, a pain reliever used by some people for its narcotic-like properties. A typical example of the misuse of pharmaceutical products that the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) and pharmacists want to combat.

When do we talk about misuse? “This is consistent with inappropriate and harmful use of the drug for the patient,” says ANSM CEO Christelle Ratignier-Carbonnail. The cause may be different links in the chain. The patient can, first of all, self-medicate, deviating from medical prescriptions. According to a 2021 survey by the ViaVoice Institute, almost a third of French people adapt the doses or duration of treatment themselves.
