Paris 2024: LeBron James is determined to take part in the Olympic basketball tournament

LeBron James is still ready for Paris 2024. Twelve years after he last competed, the Lakers player expressed his motivation to compete in the Olympics this summer. Already twice crowned, in Beijing in 2008 and then in London in 2012, the “King” took advantage of Sunday’s press conference on the sidelines of the All-Star Game to discuss the topic.

“When I decided to be part of the Olympic team, I said that everything would obviously depend on my health,” LeBron James began. As it stands, I’m healthy enough to be part of the team and perform at the level I knew I could perform at. »

Speaking to reporters, the player insisted on the pace set by such a competition and wants to perform at 100% of his abilities. “The Olympics will be 11 games, but they will last 5 and a half weeks, and my body will have to endure that,” he continued. If I make the commitment, I will be fully, with all my mind, body and soul, with the American team, representing our country. »

“Be successful against any team in the world”

At 39 years old, the Los Angeles Lakers forward will be one of the team’s leaders, but he already sees that he can count on the support of other NBA stars present in Paris.

“At the moment I’m not sure what the whole team will look like, but based on some of the names I know, I won’t have to feel any pressure or feeling that I have to wear the team,” he insisted. This will be a complete team of 12 players capable of achieving success both offensively and defensively on any given night against any country in the world. »

After Team USA finished fourth at the last World Championship, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer was planning to participate in the Olympic tournament. Currently, 41 players have already been selected to represent Team USA in Paris. Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard are on the list, which will be trimmed to 12 before the Olympics. Newly naturalized Joel Embiid is also pre-selected.

The end of my career is “approaching”

As for his future in the NBA, the superstar left doubts about his future career and a possible change of team. “I haven’t decided yet how many seasons I have left to play. But I know that there are few of them left,” the “King” avoided.

“I’m a Laker and I’ve been happy as a Laker for the last six years and I hope it stays that way. But I don’t have an answer to the question of how many seasons I have left and what jersey I will wear,” he replied.

James has the option to activate an additional year on his contract next season or be released this summer. This leaves the door open for a final franchise change (after Cleveland, Miami, then Cleveland again). “Hopefully it will be with the Lakers.” This is a great organization. Let’s see. I don’t know how I’ll finish, but the end will definitely come. »
