Val-de-Marne: Seniors from five towns learn taiso, a gentle and athletic Japanese practice

One hundred and fifty residents of Val-de-Marne over 60 years of age have discovered the benefits of Thaiso for free since November last year in Charenton-le-Pont, Champigny-sur-Marne, Vitry-sur-Seine, Fontenay-sous-Sous. Bois and Maisons-Alfort. Twenty-one sessions and two conferences are offered in each city, supported by a conference of sponsors, to prevent loss of department council autonomy.

The project, called “Fighting Falls with the Help of Martial Arts and the Art of Words,” was organized by Saparman, a specialist in recreational sports for older people. On that Thursday afternoon, seven elderly men in tracksuits dutifully moved around the Maisons-Alfort dojo. “Heels on buttocks, don’t forget to breathe,” announces Antoine Bidot, the teacher, at the beginning of the thirteenth beginner class.
