A text that professionals especially expect. Midwives who are asking for the same working conditions as doctors to perform instrumental abortions have won their case. The decree was just published this Wednesday in the Official Journal.
The first decree, published in mid-December, already allowed midwives to perform instrumental abortions in hospitals, but the conditions for performing them were considered too difficult by professionals.
❗️This Wednesday in OJ: a new decree, which the organizations representing them are eagerly awaiting, establishing the conditions under which midwives can perform abortions in hospitals.
It replaces the previous one, which was considered too restrictive (for example, it requires the presence of a doctor). pic.twitter.com/H2yf7I302c

Making the work of midwives easier
In order for these caregivers to perform voluntary instrumental abortions, the text thus required the facility to have “an orthogenic physician, an obstetrician-gynecologist, an anesthesiologist, and an embolization tray.” The regulation is “applicable in large centers” but not “in smaller settings” due to a shortage of doctors, Delphine Giraud, co-president of the association of orthogenetic midwives, explained to franceinfo. This is no longer the case in the new version of the decree published this Thursday.
In early March, Health Minister Frederic Valletou promised to do everything possible to make the work of midwives easier after abortion was included in the Constitution. On
#IVG. Carrying out voluntary instrumental termination of pregnancy by #AverageWoman finally simplified and made easier.
Following consultations, the decree was published this morning in the Official Journal.
An important step forward towards women’s freedom.
