In Lizy-sur-Ourcq, it is now forbidden to smoke in front of schools

Since November 2, smoking has been banned in front of all schools in Lizy-sur-Ourcq (Seine-et-Marne), reports La Marne. The mayor (SE-DVG) Maxence Gille concretized by a municipal decree this project which had been under discussion for several months.

From now on, parents who are waiting for their children in front of school will no longer be able to smoke, at the risk of being sanctioned with a fine of 11 euros.

A public health measure

The objective is “to avoid passive smoking suffered by children” and to limit the “risk of cigarette burns during rushed passages of children”, explained the mayor. This project was imagined several months ago by the former first deputy Cindy Moussi-Le Guillou, now an adviser to the opposition. Its implementation was delayed by the obligation to wear a mask in front of schools, which is finally no longer in force since October 13.

The decree explicitly targets parents who smoked while waiting for their children in front of school since the ban is only applied on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the entry and exit times of classes. In Seine-et-Marne, seven other municipalities including Fontainebleau or Melun have also made this choice. In France, according to France Info, 240 of them have set up various non-smoking areas (schools, parks, stadiums, etc.).
