To cope with the lack of doctors, an unprecedented experiment in France has been carried out for eighteen months in Pithiviers (Loiret) and its surroundings by the local professional health community (CPTS) Beauce-Gâtinais. It is aimed at patients without an attending physician and aims to avoid overcrowding in emergencies, explains France Bleu Orléans.
Since March 2020, these patients can reach a free telephone number, 0801.90.45.00, to find a place with one of the 14 voluntary liberal doctors. They have undertaken to devote two hours to these consultations, on a rotating basis.
2,000 consultations per year
Patients should only make an appointment for “unscheduled care”. These are not emergencies but pathologies that deserve a quick consultation. This system has already made it possible to provide 2,000 consultations per year.
The results are positive. Aid of 10,000 euros will be provided by the department to support the initiative and in particular to finance the telesecretariat. Similar projects could soon see the light of day in other areas of Loiret, where more than 60,000 people have not declared an attending physician.
