Astrology and cocktails? Learn all the secrets of Luna Roja, the first mystical bar in Peru

On block three of Avenida Bolognesi, in the Barranco district, there is an ideal space for lovers of the mystical and esoteric, but also for those looking to enjoy new cocktails. This is Luna Roja, a bar that celebrates the elements, the tarot and creativity with a card that cannot be missed. Advantage visited the premises and tasted some of the cocktails that you must enjoy.

We talked with Carla Zelada who, together with her husband, created this space that opened two weeks before the pandemic, but with a different concept. “We had to close several months and we took advantage of that time to look for a different proposal and we chose to bet on an environment full of art, tarot and a lot of mysticism”, says the owner.

Zelada adds that since she was little, this topic caught her attention, which is why she studied astrology and is a tarot reader. “My husband also believes in these issues and we met in a bar, so we thought it was great to put the two things together and that’s how Luna Roja was born,” she explains.

Thus they created an interesting proposal whose main inspiration is the four elements and the tarot. “My husband is in charge of the cocktails, who is also a bartender and is in charge of preparing everything from scratch and using traditional methods,” says the owner, who decided to include a curious dynamic on Thursdays and Sundays.

“Tarot nights are the most sought after event by people. Previous registration you can access a cocktail and a reading of 15 minutes. It is a short version of a dynamic that can last much longer, but more and more people are encouraged and it is cool to see the interest”, Zelada mentions.

The place is spacious, cozy and with a play of lights that combines perfectly with the theme, so as not to lose style. But, not only the decoration is consistent, but also the presentation of the drinks, which gives a mystical touch.

FLAVORS OF THE ELEMENTS

The best-known drinks are those inspired by the four elements: earth, air, water and fire, which, in turn, represent various zodiac signs. We tried the option for aries, leo and sagittarius, the Profondo Rosso. This refreshing, sweet and balanced cocktail is prepared with whiskey, strawberry liqueur, cranberry juice and house syrups. The air-inspired drink, Dolce Luisa, features infused gin, tonic water, mint liqueur, and lemon juice.

For those of the earth element, they created ribelle vodka, which also includes pitahaya and pineapple syrup, lemon juice and tonic water. Finally, there is the sky blue background, a tribute to water, which is prepared with rum, blue curacao, ginger ale and lemon juice with pineapple.

The Tarot drink consists of vodka infused with cranberries and rosemary, lemon juice, lemon and rosemary syrups, and sparkling wine. Likewise, we can find three versions of calientitos and a complete menu of more classic cocktails and a section of the menu dedicated exclusively to beers and mead. You can even enjoy Crescent Red Ale, a craft beer brewed by the bar itself.

All the cocktails are balanced, with curious flavors to decipher and at a good price, considering the interesting presentation of each one.
