Mercado San Martín: a guide to everything vegan you can eat in the gastronomic patio of Miraflores

The gastronomic patios are a great alternative when you have a large family or a group of friends with whom you cannot decide what to eat. In these spaces, most of them open, there is a large offer of various food brands. So everyone can say what to eat and what to drink while enjoying a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere with good music.

At Mercado San Martín you will find everything from bubble tea, sugar-free drinks to short drinks. In addition, you can choose between Creole, fusion, Chinese or hamburgers. There are good gastronomic offers in a very well decorated two-story environment.

A more eco-friendly bet

According to a survey carried out by IPSOS for the NGO ARBA, 2% of the urban Peruvian population is considered vegan, which would mean a population of more than 600 thousand vegan inhabitants, and 62% of this resides in Lima.

In addition, last year Ipsos Global Advisor asked different countries around the world who were willing to reduce their meat consumption for environmental and Peru was the country where more people said they were willing to reduce their meat consumption due to environmental issues, 64% of people indicated that they would stop eating or reduce their consumption. And 65% said they would replace milk with some alternative to reduce climate change. So there are more and more Peruvians who for some reason have decided to stop or reduce their meat consumption. This undoubtedly invites restaurants to have more options for those who, due to caring for their health, the environment or animals, have determined not to eat more meat or derivatives.

Without further ado, let’s start with the vegan route of the Mercado San Martín:

Lucumo

This restaurant has been in Mercado San Martín for two and a half years and from the beginning it has healthy and vegan options. The Lúcumo team narrates that since they opened they decided to add plant-based options to please the tourists who come to the gastronomic patio.

They have a vegan cause made of yellow potatoes and vegetables, decorated with a generous avocado at its point. In addition, they have a vegetarian chaufa that can also be adapted to vegan. Lúcumo is a restaurant specializing in traditional Peruvian Creole food with generous portions. Vegans can ask for the vegetarian options and indicate that they are vegan so that it does not come with eggs or mayonnaise, and that’s it. The chaufa instead of bringing egg, will arrive with fried plantain. Something important is that the seasoning, the care with which the dishes are served, does not change.

Also, as accompaniments you can ask for French fries, a must for those who find a balance between a healthy bowl and a bit of potato crunchie.

This Saltado contains generous portions of this vegetable meat, tomato, onion, grained white rice and crunchy French fries.

If you are looking for something lighter but with flavor, you can find other veggie options in Saltao (which you can ask to be vegan) in addition to beyond meat lomo saltado. In addition, the skewers come accompanied with golden potatoes, shelled corn and sauces suitable for vegans.

Anastasia Gyros’ star dish is the gyro, a delicious kebab of Greek origin, which you can order with the protein you like best. In this case, vegans have the option of a crunchy and delicious falafel.
