Too hot? These are 7 craft beers ideal for summer

In moderation, beer is a good companion at times such as lunch with friends, celebrations and, of course, in the heat of summer. And in this 2024 season, which is characterized by higher temperatures than usual, there are drinks that can be very refreshing.

This is explained by Marco Málaga, CEO and Brewmaster of the 7 Vidas brewery, an expert in the field and who was visiting Peru to teach a Master Class aimed at professionals in the sector.

During the meeting, attendees learned about beer tasting and differentiating between 16 unique creations.

At the end of the talk, as proof of the wide range of beer styles that exist, he was encouraged to recommend 7 ideal beers for this summer. These are the ones chosen by the specialist and how he describes them, according to a press release sent to this editorial office:

1. AMERICAN RED ALE: “It is characterized by its pronounced maltiness. The wonderful intense red color and its white foam open the way to the clean aroma of dried fruits, perfumed notes of caramel malts and a very slight toast. Ideal to pair with blue cheeses, Roquefort or Brie. “Excellent accompaniment to ají de gallina.”

2. OXAPAMPA HONEY ALE: “Made with Oxapampa bee honey, a multifloral honey where aromas from passion fruit and pacae flowers predominate. Intense golden color, aroma and flavor of honey, balanced bitterness and light sweetness. To pair with a board of young and semi-ripe cheeses, arugula and vinaigrette salad or a succulent cheesecake with seasonal fruits.”

3. QUINOA WHEAT: “Peruvian version of North American wheat beers. Citrus aromas of hops and soft notes of quinoa. Medium bitterness and presence of flavors of whole wheat bread and citrus notes. Medium stay finish. A refreshing beer for all times. Ideal to pair with new-Andean dishes, fried trout or to contrast with the flavors of a succulent pachamanca.”

4. MANGO MILSHAKE IPA: “Fruity beer based on a delicious NE-IPA. Made with barley and wheat malt, roasted oats, lactose, Madagascar vanilla and mango. They will surprise you with their intense fruity aromas. Medium bitterness, great body and extreme creaminess make these seasonal beers something you cannot miss. Try this beer with some hearty anticuchos and you will be surprised at how well it goes.”

5. ROSE BRUT: “New beer in the style of Grape Ales. Made with Italia grape must, from long-lived Tacneños vineyards. Its “Rose” color and more complex fruit notes are provided by fresh blueberry. A fruity but very dry beer, unique in its kind and, due to the short harvest window, it is only possible to brew at the end of summer. To pair with salads, a tuna carpaccio or a succulent cheetah in salt.”

6. WHITE SOLERA: “It is a Barrel Aged American Wild Ale style beer, aged for a minimum of 14 months in French oak barrels that previously had Sauvignon Blanc white wine. The house’s mixed culture was added to the barrels and a strict solera method was followed. Straw gold color, good clarity. On the nose there are delicate aromas of peach, pear and white wine. Medium acidity, medium-high carbonation with a clean fruity palate reminiscent of a white sparkling wine. An exceptional beer that pairs with fish pork rinds, grilled lobster or cornstarch alfajores with manjar blanco.”

7. X7 CZECH PILS: “A Bohemian Pilsener made with super soft water, traditional maceration methods, fermentation at very low temperatures and lagering for 6 weeks at 0 °C. Moderate malt character, slightly sweet reminiscent of cookies and bread. The bitterness of the hops is perceived at a medium level with the classic floral and spicy notes of the SAAZ hops. Ideal to pair with a carretillero ceviche or a hearty grilled chicken.”
