Durigutti Family Winemakers, knowing the history from the beginning

The winemaker Hector Duriguttiwho is in charge of the winery Durigutti Family Winemakers, was visiting Lima showing some of his wines made in Argentina and Spain that caused a pleasant surprise. He tells us that for the company it is the 22nd harvest and although he is not in Mendoza he feels calm and confident because of the great team he has.

Brothers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti created this winery in 2002 and are the first generation to begin the history and legacy of wine production in the family.

Although they grow crops in various valleys in Mendoza, a few years ago they placed emphasis on Luján de Cuyo, the historic area and cradle of the most prestigious Malbec. Their Las Compuertas line pays tribute to this traditional area and can be found in the Le Caveau wine store.

Another of the lines that we shared in the facilities of the charming La Romántica restaurant were the classic black label: Durigutti Blanc de Blancs 2023, an expressive white based on 40% viognier accompanied by sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and semillon. Something sweet without losing freshness, with a lime aftertaste. Bonarda 2022 will always bring us good memories for this noble and ductile variety, the most planted in Argentina. To finish the Mendoza line a 2022 petit verdot marked by black fruit.

We continued with the Spanish labels Raíces del Miño, village wines, which made us jump out of our chairs. The Duriguttis had the audacity to go to Galicia to make wines, specifically in Ribeiro. It sounds easy but it is not. Wines, beyond bureaucratic procedures, must have the acceptance of the inhabitants of the region. His first harvest (2017) did not see the light of day because Héctor did not feel satisfied. It is with his 2018 harvest that he goes out to conquer the market and I have no doubt that this will be the case. We tried three wines: Raíces del Miño treixadura, elegant and charming, symbolizes very well the representative variety of Ribeiro.

We continue with Autochthonous Strains, a white blend made with treixadura, albariño, godello and only 1% of loureira, diverse and with several layers to enjoy. The closing was with Tinto Galaico 2018 fluid, refreshing and tasty. It’s so different from what I’ve tried. It is made with brancellao, caiño longo and sousón, all native grapes.

The wines of the Raíces del Miño line only ferment with native yeasts, they are not filtered or clarified. You can buy them through Lamartrade.
