Teresita Food Truck: from a mobile stand to being Comas’ favorite grill point with a new location

In block six of Av. Héroes del Alto Cenepa, also known as Av. Trapiche, in Commas, we found a place that stands out from the rest. With a large bright sign, cozy lights on the terrace and a special smell that emanates from her kitchen, Teresita is a family huarique that seeks to conquer the public with the best quality meats and grills. Advantage visited their new location, where we tasted some of their options, and here we tell you more about their history.

Although few know it, the Miñano family began this adventure in 2016, when they decided to open a food truck to offer homemade food, celebrating the seasoning of their grandmother, who always cooked well. “My dad was always a businessman, but in the transportation business. At that time, my brother and he decided to start with this proposal and little by little we became known in the neighborhood,” explains Shanthall Miñano, daughter of the restaurant’s founder, Oscar Miñano.

Things remained good, the audience increased and they decided to expand to other spaces. Unfortunately, the pandemic arrived and – as we all know – the restaurant industry was widely affected. “We were not the exception, so we had to close. Until my grandmother decided to buy a small grill and she started selling anticuchos,” she remembers.

Thus began the second stage of Teresita Food Truck, focusing on grills with quite classic preparations such as anticuchos, chops and churrasco. The success was obvious, thanks to the large number of clients who were looking for them, despite being in a less traveled area of Comas. “Due to the pandemic and seeing how things were going, my dad decided to leave the transportation business and his love for grilling began,” explains Miñano.

Initially, his university was Tik Tok. On this platform they learned tips, recipes and ways to improve the cooking of the menu. “Then (Oscar) got a cook dedicated to teaching grilling classes and he learned even more. At this point, he began to take classes and workshops, to educate himself more,” comments the person also in charge of Marketing.

With greater knowledge, the bet grew and they decided to include fine national cuts. Thus, they included in the menu entrails, steaks, picaña and other delicacies that we will mention later.

Thanks to the creativity of Shanthall and her team, they managed to make a video go viral on Tik Tok. “There everything changed completely. Queues formed in our space, which little by little grew and we increased tables, but we knew that the time had come to find another space,” he mentions.

Their idea is to maintain the essence of a family huarique, with generous portions, closeness when providing service and a cozy atmosphere, but elevate the experience with good quality cuts, a wine list and other special details.

Embers for everyone

The menu they offer is simple and precise, with cautious starters to snack on, but giving the prominence that not only the special cuts of meat deserve, but also the more traditional grill options, such as the version that includes churrasco, grilled brisket and anticuchos. .

A good way to start is with the tapas, which consist of pieces of artisanal chorizo mounted on oregano ciabatta bread. It is crowned with an unmissable chimichurri and picadillo, balanced and prepared in an artisanal way. Another good option is the house bread, which comes toasted on the grill with the sauces already mentioned.

The menu includes delicacies such as sweetbreads, grilled wings, rachi and choncholí, to name a few. We can also find choripan and as an accompaniment they present grilled vegetables, an option with mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, broccoli and paprika.

The special cuts consist of strip roast, thin entrail, narrow and wide steak, picaña and the Tomahawk, one of the restaurant’s favorites and most viral. “On several occasions we run out of portions of this cut, since it is large in size and many customers come to try it and live the experience we offer,” Shanthall admits.

We tried the picaña, a tender cut characterized by a tasty layer of external fat, which takes special care of cooking. Our favorite term is 3/4 and in Teresita they achieved it without problems. It comes with its grains of coarse salt, since it does not need any further decoration thanks to the delicious flavor.

These cuts are accompanied with a generous portion of shaker potatoes sautéed in butter and chimichurri, which makes each piece crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fresh salad, quite classic with lettuce, onion, tomato and avocado, is perfected with a special dressing with sweet touches.

If it is wine, they have a varied menu and a team trained to recommend some options according to your tastes and what you request. They also offer cocktails such as chilcanos and mojito, but we opt for a very refreshing gin cocktail.

It is definitely worth the journey to taste the seasoning of Teresita Food Truck, a restaurant with a heart of huarique that knows how to win over customers.
