Follow these steps to motivate children to read

The reading helps stimulate creativity, improves memory, concentration and empathy in children, according to experts. Therefore, it is very important to encourage children to read. For the expert Kristina Cordero, director of Product Development and Research at Beereaders, it should start by helping schoolchildren to discover their tastes in reading, in a way that motivates them to read regularly.

How do you do that? Although there are currently various digital tools that facilitate learning, the passion for reading must also be transmitted. For this reason, Cordero offers five recommendations to teachers and parents to motivate reading in children and make learning a pleasant experience:

  1. Choose books that are related to the environment in which your children or students live. That way, they will feel familiar and it will be easier for you to talk to them about what you read.
  2. If the child is a creative and imaginative person, choose books that have pictures and few words. So you can tell different stories each time.
  3. Talk about each image on the page and describe it in as much detail as possible. That will make you listen and learn.
  4. Tell them stories that they can relate to and include details that they are living, associated with their daily life, so that you feel involved and part of the story.
  5. After reading, ask questions about what they see, feel or think, to develop their reading comprehension.

Let us remember that according to the last PISA test (carried out in 2018), Peru barely improved its reading performance by 3 points and ranks 64th out of 77 countries in the world, below Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil.

The world reaches the record number of 5 million deaths from COVID-19
