How and until when to make a proxy to vote this weekend?

The first round of the 2022 legislative elections will be held this Sunday, June 12. The French will elect the 577 deputies who will constitute the National Assembly. If you can’t vote and you haven’t yet established a power of attorney, there is still time to do so.

In principle, you can mandate another person to vote in your place until the day of the first round, June 12, 2022 in this case. But in practice, it is better to take into account the delivery times of your request. It is therefore recommended to carry out this procedure as soon as possible (at least three days before D-Day) to be sure that the proxy can vote for you.

A form to download online to save time

To make this power of attorney, the voter must go to a police station, a gendarmerie or the district court of his home or place of work to obtain and submit the form to be completed. It is also possible to download this form online to save time on site.

The process can also be done via the site maprocuration.gouv.fr. The Internet user can fill in the information requested online but he will still have to go to one of the three places mentioned to validate his power of attorney by presenting an identity document. He then receives an email as soon as his request is accepted.

Persons abroad must go to the embassy or consulate. Finally, voters who are unable to travel due to health problems can ask the authorities to come to them in order to establish the power of attorney. Proof will then be required.

The agent must go to your polling station

When drawing up the power of attorney, it must be specified whether it is valid for the first round only, for the second round or for both. The voter can also choose a validity period for the power of attorney, which cannot exceed one year (three years for French nationals living abroad).

Since January 1, 2022, it has been possible to give a proxy to a voter registered on the electoral lists of another municipality, but the latter will still have to go to your polling station. He will not have any document to present except an identity document.
