‘I will invite them again in May’: Macron promises to meet unions halfway

Not to mention marijuana, noise… The head of state gives himself a second chance. Emmanuel Macron continues his journey, whether in the region in front of the French or with the unions. On Wednesday, he assured that he would invite the social partners again “in May” and promised in an interview with regional newspapers of the Ebra group that the compromises reached between employers and trade unions would be “in good faith enshrined” in law.

After the “disagreement over pensions”, Emmanuel Macron wished that the social partners “return to the negotiating table” on the “life at work pact”. “I will skip May 1, as they asked me, and invite them again during May. My door is open,” he said.

After the express promulgation of the pension reform, the unions declined an invitation to a meeting on Tuesday at the Elysee Palace, where the head of state hosted the only employers’ organizations. The President of the Republic also made a “methodical commitment”, promising that “what will be built between unions and employers will be accurately recorded”. “It is limitless and without taboos,” he added.

Building “then” and “together” “social agenda”

So the government will “renew the agreement they made on cost sharing” and “we will then agree on a bill for full employment.” “Before July 14, a text will be presented to the Assembly for consideration, which may include legislative provisions necessary for serious reform of the vocational school,” he added. He also proposed to build “then” and “together” “a social agenda and program on all major labor issues, which will be agreed before the end of the year.”

With regard to purchasing power, the head of state acknowledged that “with salaries below 2,000 euros, we live poorly.” “That should be our priority,” especially for “those who are taller than Smick” and “who don’t have help” or “those who often have to use their car a lot.”

While the idea of a “democratic crisis” arose in the discussion, the head of state warned against “drunkenness on the part of the extremists”. “I don’t equate them,” but the elected LFI and National Rally “both have a delegitimization lawsuit that is being reopened by other participants in the public debate. It is dangerous,” said Emmanuel Macron.
