Internships are paid from the second, the sectors are removed … what will the future professional university look like?

This place is often mentioned by Emmanuel Macron: a professional school. We must “transform” this path, he said in his April 17 speech. Outcome: The President of the Republic is due to announce this Thursday during a visit to the institution in Saintes (Charente-Maritime) a series of reforms for this path that affect 621,000 students, or a third of high school students.

Goal: to make this course “the path of excellence”, sums up the Elysian, to ensure 100% recruitment of these young people. Today, “only one in two Vocational Baccalaureate holders and a quarter of CAP students manage to enter the labor market within a year of graduation,” reminds us at the Ministry of Vocational Education and Training – Minister Carole Grandjean being attached to both the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of national education, for the first time in the history of the Fifth Republic.

More internships in three years of high school

Among the expected announcements: “rapprochement between companies and institutions,” the key to more internships in three years of high school. Today is scheduled for six weeks in the second, eight in the first and eight in the final. If, according to our information, the executive branch does not intend to touch school time, the unions fear that these internships will lead to a reduction in hours of fundamental education – for example, French and mathematics …

“We don’t need an extra week of training! Many professional high school students come from dysfunctional backgrounds. Their place is in school, they need the same cultural background as their classmates,” sings Sigrid Gerardin, general secretary of Snuep-FSU, a large union of professional high school teachers. The average social standing index (SSI) for vocational schools is 83 versus 113 overall.

Knowing this, the government intends to make these paid internships the second. How many ? According to our information, from 200 to 500 euros – the figure will be specified by the president on Thursday. According to our colleagues from RTL, the state can allocate one billion euros for this new bonus.

“We have been asking for a reward for a long time, but it should not be limited to internships,” exclaims Sigrid Gerardin from Snuep-FSU. Due to the necessary equipment to purchase, the fact that there is often no canteen at the training site, this method is more expensive than the usual one. You need a real study allowance. »

Promote the sectors with the best outlets

The sector map should also be flipped, in particular in favor of those that lead to more trades with outlets. About 25% of courses today “question questions”, especially in higher education, but they are chosen by 60% of students. However, it is in manufacturing professions that the best markets can be found. It also creates inequality between women and men, as only 13% of girls choose the most promising courses.

Which one will be removed? Which one will be created? The ball will be passed to the “field” actors. But the professions of ecological transition and digitalization should be the subject of the creation of new sectors. Finally, in general, the “content” of the lessons will be revised to adapt it to changes in the field of employment.

The timetable for this reform – completely normative so it doesn’t have to go through the bill – is also due to be clarified this Thursday, but the application of free internships is already scheduled for the start of the 2023 school year. “.
