Whistles and pots are now part of the decor of every trip of the President of the Republic. This Monday at Versailles at the Choose France summit, Emmanuel Macron did not escape it.
Flags of the CGT, whistles, firecrackers and pots fluttered through the streets of Versailles. Between 150 and 200 people were present from Versailles Chantier station to Yvelines prefecture, according to the union. Purpose: to make noise as a sign of opposition to the head of state.
The demonstrators especially chanted “Macron resign! ”, “Emmanuel Macron President of Bosses” or even “We are here”. “We have been fighting against the pension reform for 4 months, today our dear president with representatives of Medef is in the Palace of Versailles, so we will try to say hello to them,” Arnaud Thuon, a trade union representative of the CGT railway workers from Versailles, told AFP.
200 leaders gathered in Versailles
As early as Friday at Dunkirk, as on every one of his trips in recent weeks, between 200 and 300 demonstrators were waiting on the spot for the head of state to discuss his reindustrialization policy. Among them are opponents of the pension reform, as well as employees of Valdunes, France’s latest railroad wheel maker, released last week by a Chinese shareholder.
The mobilization took place under the supervision of numerous mobile gendarmes and must remain about 500 meters from the Palace of Versailles, where the Choose France summit is taking place.
It brings together 200 international leaders from over fifty different nationalities. Among them are the bosses of Pfizer or ArcelorMittal, as well as the leader and founder of Tesla, Elon Musk.
