Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will visit France this Friday.

MBS returns to the Elysee Palace. Emmanuel Macron will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Friday in Paris, according to the official Saudi press, cited by the Reuters news agency. French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ludovic Puy also announced the visit on his Twitter account. In this message (in Arabic and English), he indicates that the meeting will take place on June 16, this Friday, according to BFMTV.

According to Bloomberg, the two statesmen will discuss the international situation and bilateral relations. In addition to meeting with the president of the republic, Mohammed bin Salman and his Saudi delegation are due to travel to the “Summit for a New Global Financial Pact” scheduled for June 22 and 23 in Paris, Reuters news agency reported.

A previous official visit by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in July 2022 to the Élysée Palace was controversial. This was the first time Mohammed bin Salman had visited Europe since the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 at the Saudi embassy in Turkey.

MBS was quickly suspected of involvement in this assassination: the US intelligence agency declassified a report accusing Mohammed bin Salman of “confirming” the assassination. During his visit to France last summer, hours before meeting Emmanuel Macron, two NGOs filed a complaint in Paris against the crown prince for complicity in torture and enforced disappearance in connection with the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
