Boycott of rallies in Saint-Denis: Emmanuel Macron settles scores

Until now he had remained silent. But this Wednesday, November 15, Emmanuel Macron finally emerged from his reticence. From Bern (Switzerland), where he was on a state visit, the President of the Republic, without taking off his gloves, responded to the party leaders who had just supported him at the second meeting in Saint-Denis, scheduled for this Friday.

“I believe that this is a major political mistake on the part of these leaders,” the head of state said. And he continued: “The absence from the working meeting on constitutional reforms is absolutely shameful. » The formal attack is directed at Manuel Bompard, national coordinator of the LFI, Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS, and Eric Ciotti, boss of the Republicans, all three of whom reacted negatively to Emmanuel Macron’s invitation.

“My role is not to walk”

“No excuse justifies this, especially the use of the current geopolitical context,” the Head of State said, referring to the conflict in the Middle East. A phrase specially created for Eric Ciotti. The latter actually justified his decision to boycott the meeting of the head of state by emphasizing “the absence of the President of the Republic on Sunday at the demonstration against anti-Semitism.”

On the set of BFM this Wednesday, the right-wing leader joked about the “annoyance” of an Elysée Palace tenant: “I’m not going to be an extra in a commercial for the President of the Republic,” he said. he responded, repeating his criticism of Emmanuel Macron’s absence from Sunday’s march.

A reproach – which he was not the only one to address to the President – to which Emmanuel Macron also tried to respond from Switzerland. He felt that there “should not be a debate” surrounding his absence from the march against anti-Semitism. “My role is not to walk around. “My role is to help free our hostages,” he continued. My role is to continue to maintain the unity of the country during this period and never send each other back to back,” he insisted.
