Former Metz mayor Dominique Gros found guilty of misappropriation of interests

Former PS Metz mayor Dominique Gros, prosecuted for misappropriation of interests, was sentenced on Thursday to four months in prison and three years of disqualification by the Metz criminal court. Dominique Gros, mayor from 2008 to 2020, was prosecuted for illegal stock acquisition activities that took place between 2015 and 2019.

The 81-year-old former councilor has “always disputed” the wrongdoing. “Honor is on his side and he knows what he did,” his lawyer Mathias Guillou, who asked for his acquittal at the December 14 hearing, told AFP. Some facts of the initiation of a criminal case are related to “formal errors in the voting procedure,” he explains.

Partnership subsidies and real estate transfers

According to Le Républicain Lorrain, the former mayor was accused in particular of twice being involved in discussions to provide subsidies to the association that would become Inspire Metz while he was president.

Other alleged actions involved the transfer of real estate. Dominique Gros was also fined €10,000, €5,000 of which was suspended. Dominique Gros, who was present at the announcement of the discussion, did not want to respond to AFP. He has 10 days to appeal.
