The withdrawal from the Council of Ministers will take place this Wednesday, January 24. During the official report itself, a government spokesman confirmed, following Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, that the executive branch is giving a free hand to angry farmers. “The blockade is taking place, there can be no question of preventing this expression of demands,” declares Prisca Thévenot, asserting that, with the exception of the tragedy in Pamiers (Ariège), which left the movement in mourning, security conditions are “observed.” Unusual, to say the least… “There is anger that needs to be expressed, and so we allow it to be expressed,” suggests the executive advisor.

Five hours later, flames licked the façade of the prefecture of Agen (Lot-et-Garonne). Symptomatic encounter: the government is active, rowing, cajoling, chasing farmers. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Wednesday night instructed prefects to show “great moderation,” asking them to involve police only as a “last resort.”
