Presidential elections 2027: Fabien Roussel wants to take steps to unite the left “right now”

The head of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, does not want to wait until after the European elections to launch a new left-wing gathering in 2027, calling for a “from now on” approach without excluding “one political force or another.” “

“Why wait for the end of the Europeans? I hope that we will now begin to take a new approach to victory in 2027,” explains Fabien Roussel in an interview with Le Figaro on Wednesday evening, calling for “the creation of a credible prospect of victory” with “a serious, funded program that will rebuild the country.” and reconciles the French.

In his opinion, “several important topics” were not covered in the Nupes program, “created in a few days, on the corner of a table” in May 2022. “Our country deserves much better,” he says, while acknowledging that there will be “tough moments” in the discussions, especially on pensions or nuclear energy.

“I want to talk to everyone”

Asked whether LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon can represent the left, he replies that “today Jean-Luc Mélenchon, like other Insoumis leaders, is scary. But I’m not here to award good points, don’t ask me to exclude this or that force.”

“I want to talk to everyone, from Sophie Binet (head of the CGT, editor’s note) to Patrick Martin (president of Medef, editor’s note). I want to convince the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon as well as the voters of Marine Le Pen,” he insists.

Rejecting the idea of already thinking about the process of nominating a single candidate or primaries, he believes that “it is not a priority.” He advocates “not the candidacy of a party, but of meetings and programs,” without further details. “I am fully prepared to lead this fight. There may be several of us who do this. I’m not closing the door on any scenario,” he concludes.
