The Netflix network announced this Tuesday that it reached an agreement for $5 billion to broadcast the American professional catch league WWE online for 10 years, a major step for the platform’s entry into the world of sports.
This transaction provides for exclusivity for the broadcast in the United States of the main program of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), “Raw”, from January 2025, the company indicated in a statement.
Outside the United States, Netflix will host all WWE programs, a viewership phenomenon, he noted in a document filed with the SEC, the American stock market regulator.
Converted into WWE in 2002, this league last year exceeded $1 billion in annual turnover.
Last April, WWE joined the leading professional mixed martial arts league, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), into a single holding company, TKO Group, listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
On Wall Street, around 3:50 p.m. GMT, Netflix gained 0.34% and TKO soared 15.39%.
